It was founded in 1935, which was a sad time in our nation’s history when there weren’t many beaches that allowed African Americans. Over the next two decades, African Americans came from all over the country to visit the beach. Due to this historical significance, American Beach is part of the Florida Black Heritage Trail. The beach itself is quiet, removed from traffic sounds with beautiful views of the ocean and the surrounding sand dunes.
