The Puyallup Public Library is a community library that serves the residents of the city and surrounding regions. The library was born in 1877 when Ezra Meeker’s wife began lending books to the local people from her cabin and has grown into a 39,500 square-foot library that offers a wide variety of services. The library houses a collection of over 150,000 books, 12,000 audiobooks, 20,000 videos, and 10,000 CDs, along with periodicals, newspapers, and public computers with access to the Internet. The library has meeting rooms for the public to use, study rooms for students and quiet nooks for reading, and is open Monday through Saturday.

The Ezra Meeker Mansion is a historic building dating back to 1886 that was once owned by Ezra Meeker, American pioneer and the first mayor of Puyallup. The mansion was the second home owned by the Meeker family, the first of which was a wooden cabin built on the site of what is now Pioneer Park and commemorated with a statue of Meeker in its place. The mansion became the social and political center of the valley, and today stands as an excellent example of Meeker’s life as mayor in the late 1800s. The mansion features hand-painted ceilings, period antiques, and stained-glass windows, and visitors can explore the house on guided tours.

The Karshner Memorial Museum and Centre for Cultural Arts was established in 1930 by Dr. Paul H. Karshner and his wife, to honor the short life of their son Paul Hibbert Karshner who died from polio at the age of 17. In the beginning, the museum was filled with artifacts from Mr. Karsner’s private collection. Today it includes many Native American and South Pacific items, showcased in several permanent exhibits and a Dale Chihuly glass exhibit. The museum is probably the only one of its kind in the country to be owned by the local school district, and it is used extensively for educational and cultural arts purposes.

Prior to September 2020, King Family Fun Center had been a local landmark for more than 50 years. In those days there was a great indoor skating rink, and outdoor mini-golf course, a games arcade and a café. However, a disastrous fire gutted the complex in September 2020, right in the heart of the Covid Pandemic. The family-owned and much-loved Fun Center was almost entirely destroyed and the uncertainties of the pandemic mean that the skating rink, café and games arcade have been permanently closed. However, the carefully maintained outdoor mini-golf course remains open to provide hours of outdoor fun for your family. The course is illuminated at night and everyone is invited to stop by for a game or two.

The good news is that children under 40 inches tall play for free. The Grease Monkey Go-Kart track is intended for older children and adults but there are a few 2-seater karts for a parent/child ride. In addition, there are several soft ball and hard ball batting cages where your kids can hone their skills.

The Spooner family has been farming in the Puyallup Valley since 1882. Spooner Farms has continued the family legacy of sustainable farming and is known far and wide for their delicious, hand-picked berries and other crops. Spring and summer herald the first of the berry harvest times and the farm is filled with strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and boysenberries. All the produce is hand-picked on sold on the day it is picked. Other produce includes corn, pumpkins, gourds and winter squash. The Fall Harvest Festival takes place from September to the end of October and visitors can enjoy a corn maze, pumpkin patch, animal barn, concessions and more.

Puyallup Fish Hatchery

The Puyallup Fish Hatchery covers more than 80 acres and was established in 1949, primarily to provide trout fingerlings to stock local fishing dams.


After major renovations and improvements in 2020, the hatchery now raises more than 700,000 Chinook salmon (to assists with salmon recovery) each year along with trout and Coho. Visitors are most welcome to come and take a self-guided walking tour of the picturesque property and school groups visit regularly to learn all about salmon life cycles, migration and conservation. The Salmon Homecoming event occurs on the first Saturday of October each year and includes tours, vendors, games and more.
